Hello there! This is me, Ross, your average office drone, family man, and harsh joke critic who has somehow survived the past few decades through a mixture of hard work, disassociation, and acerbic wit.
I love to write (clearly) but when I began this blog as a sophomore in college, I had long since let that hobby of mine lapse. Thus I decided to start a blog to collect my scattered thoughts, stories, and ideas in an effort to recapture some of the magic I felt when letting my inner machinations flow from pencil to paper. I’ve dabbled in writing stories, poetry, highbrow literature and YouTube comments, but I’ve still never achieved my goal of becoming a pretentious English Lit snob. I just fake it as best I can. Perhaps one day.
Now as I revise this About page ten years after its first incarnation, I reaffirm my desire to have a place where I can share my love of learning and creation in a way that only I can. As an artist whose preferred form of expression is the written word, I look back on my small history of blog posts and am thankful I have kept up with it through the years. Without writing the many cool things I’ve learned down, I probably would have forgotten them entirely, and I especially wouldn’t have been able to share them to the online world.
And that last part is very important to me: Sharing knowledge. I like to teach. Weird, I know, and though I think I probably wouldn’t enjoy teaching in the typical sense of having a classroom of students to give assignments and grades to, I do enjoy it when I can show someone a new way of thinking or teach them about a new subject. Explaining something I’m passionate about to a person who then becomes equally as passionate about it gives me a pretty awesome feeling. The internet is so handy for this, and though I may not be able to actually see your eyes light up with the fire of new knowledge, dear reader, the belief that you will is good enough for me.
So here’s to learning new things along with me. Hopefully you’ll find them interesting. If you’re anything like me you probably will. If not, no worries. There are lots of blogs out there worth reading and I encourage you to look for them. And most importantly, have fun! I do when I write, so it only stands to reason it should be just as fun to read.
