“Cineri Gloriwhatsis? I thought using Latin to sound smart went out of fashion decades ago.”
You’re probably right, though it will take more than being thought of as pretentious to stop me. The name of my blog, Cineri Gloria Sera Venit is nothing more than an excessively complicated way to say the phrase: “Fame comes too late to the dead.” Why did I choose that particular name for my blog? Well, I’ve always like the phrase, ever since I read it in a crusty old book about mottoes I picked up from a bookstore. As I was thinking of names that would convey the purpose for this blog, it occurred to me that this one would work well. How? you might ask. Well you’re an inquisitive one, aren’t you?
Fame comes too late to the dead. Grandiose. Long. Not a goal for myself to become a famous star, but instead a reminder that in order to make an impact on people, you have to be around them (and alive). Additionally, seeing a strangely-named blog might make a reader curious, and curiosity is the backbone of this blog. I’ve learned some interesting things over the course of my admittedly short life and I think it would be a shame not to share them with others who might wonder about the wild and wonderful things in this world. So while I won’t become famous, I would like to make a small impact on the people who read my blog. With that in mind, this blog is my gift to the public, my fame, and I hope it’s seen by many before I’m dead.
Hey, the site name kind of makes sense after all! I, uh, planned it that way all along. Yeah.
